Problem Note 45203: A "Fail to transcode column name" error occurs when you are using the XLSX driver
When you import certain Excel (.xlsx) files using the IMPORT procedure, using DBMS=XLSX might cause the following errors:
ERROR: Fail to transcode column name for column number: (xxx)
The
xxx indicates the column number that is failing. The problem occurs when the column heading contains special characters such as the asterisk ( * ) or other unprintable characters. This problem occurs in SAS
® 9.3 TS1M0.
To avoid the problem, use SAS 9.3 TS1M1 or later.

fixed.
When using PROC IMPORT to read XLSX files, you might receive a "Fail to transcode column name for column number" error. The problem occurs when there are special characters in the column heading. To resolve the problem, order SAS 9.3, Maintenance 1.
